Neighborhood Garden

Have I mentioned that I have the greatest neighborhood? I love it. This is Luis (and Brice). They are the masterminds of our little project.Luis lives across the street and he has a big piece of property that the developer tricked him into taking on, so now he has to maintain it and pay the taxes on it, but he can't build anything on it and it isn't really worth anything with a gas main running under it. It's a pain in the neck. But he wanted to do something with it to better the community instead of it just being a weed lot. So he talked to Brice and said that he thought it would be fun to do a pumpkin patch for the kids or something. He wanted to do something to get the neighborhood together. So Brice and I went to our neighbors and asked them if they were interested in participating in a neighborhood pumpkin patch or garden. Everyone liked the idea so we made a family night of it. Brice and William and Luis tilled a big area in preparation and then we made rows and hills and planted all kinds of things for family night last week. It was so much fun! And we had a great turn out. We've got to get on top of our watering schedule--there's one made, but there's only one copy of it. But we plan to get together every other week or so for family night/weed pulling/BBQ. Sounds like a blast! I hope we get a good harvest!

We learned that men like to garden by supervising. We had lots of guys that were masters at leaning on a shovel.
Looks like they're practicing for future UDOT employment, don't you think?
And they're teaching the young ones early.
Really, though, everyone helped and we got a LOT of work done pretty fast. Even the kids all wanted to man a shovel, rake, or hoe.
I'll keep posting pictures of how our neighborhood garden grows!

That is so cool! I wish we could something like that in our neighborhood! Good Job!
